Cheerleading

Join the Cheerleading Team! Open to students in grades 2-8, our cheerleading program is a fun and energetic way to stay active, build school spirit, and foster teamwork. The program promotes discipline, school pride, and a sense of community as students cheer on our basketball teams in the winter.

Whether you’re a beginner or have prior experience, our cheerleading team welcomes all levels.

Cross Country: Co-Ed

Join our award-winning Co-Ed Cross Country Team! Open to students in grades K-8, this program offers an opportunity to improve endurance, teamwork, and sportsmanship. Our cross country team competes in local meets, and athletes of all skill levels are welcome to join. 

Get ready to be part of a winning team and experience the thrill of competition while building lifelong fitness and friendships!

VolleyBall: Girls & Co-Ed

Spike into action with our Co-Ed Volleyball Team (Spring) and Girls Volleyball Team (Fall)! The volleyball team is a fantastic way to stay active, develop volleyball skills, and be part of a supportive, team-oriented environment. Players will learn key techniques, teamwork, and sportsmanship while competing in local matches. Whether you’re new to the sport or have previous experience, our volleyball program encourages growth and fun for all skill levels.

Basketball: Co-Ed

Our basketball program offers opportunities for players of all skill levels, from beginner to advanced. Here’s an overview:

Biddy Program (Grades K-2 & 3-4): Our K-2 enjoy practices on weekends to begin the students love for the game. Players in the 3rd-4th grade age group participate in games from January through March, held at various parish gyms throughout the Lehigh Valley.

JV (Grades 5-6): This instructional level focuses on skill development and teamwork. Games are played on Saturdays and/or Sundays, starting in December, at different parish gyms across the Lehigh Valley. Teams are divided into A and B levels based on skill.

Varsity Program (Grades 7-8): A competitive program for advanced players. Games take place on Saturdays and/or Sundays, beginning in December.  Teams are divided into A and B levels based on skill.

High School Program (Grades 9-12): Competitive play for experienced athletes. Games are held on Saturdays and/or Sundays starting in December, with teams divided into A and B levels based on skill.

Join us for a season of skill-building, teamwork, and excitement on the court!

 

Track and Field: Co-Ed

Join our Track and Field team, open to students in grades 3-8! Whether you’re a sprinter, distance runner, or field event enthusiast, this program offers opportunities for all athletes to develop their skills and compete in local meets. It’s a great way to stay active, build teamwork, and challenge yourself. Come be part of the action this season!

Soccer Club

Young athletes take to the field to build and master soccer fundamentals. Under an experienced coach’s guidance, they’ll learn basics like how to dribble, pass, and score. Students will explore the technical components and strategies behind the game and how they mix with collaboration and fun.

Martial Arts Club (ES)

This martial arts course empowers students with confidence and discipline. Students develop cool techniques, build strength, and make friends while they train in a safe, and structured environment. They will have a blast mastering martial arts moves that improve their flexibility, health, and ability to focus. Expert instructors blend fun and discipline, teaching strength and self-control through carefully-designed and engaging exercises.

Arts

Art and Music classes are offered once a week to students in Kindergarten through 8th Grade. These classes aim to foster creativity, appreciation, and performance through hands-on learning and technology integration.

Music Curriculum

The Music program includes singing, dancing, rhythm activities, instrument playing, theory, and music history. Liturgical music is incorporated, with a focus on applying listening skills across all subjects. Students are introduced to Recorders, the Ukulele and more. The curriculum for fifth through eighth grade covers music history of Antiquity, Middle Ages, Renaissance, Baroque Music, Classical and Romantic Periods, Music of the 20th Century including the composers and different styles, as well as American Music from the 1900’s to present.



Band & Instrumental Band Program

Students in grades 3-8 can take weekly group lessons on concert band instruments. These lessons occur during school hours. Students participate in after-school band rehearsals for the annual Band and Choir concert in May. Parent meetings are held in September for information on instrument rentals. 

Choir

The Middle School Choir, open to grades 5-8, practices weekly. They join our Instrumental Band Program in May for our annual Music Concert. Students sing at the school masses as well. Choir is open to all skill levels. 

Special Events

  • Middle School Art Show: Held annually at our Middle School Open House during Catholic Schools Week. This showcases student artwork
  • Competitions: Students participate in the Diocesan CYO Art Competition, the Lions Club International Peace Club Contest
  • School Play: St. Mike’s presents a school production each year through our CYO Program

Student Council

Become a leader and make a difference with Student Council! Open to students in grades 5-8, the Student Council provides an opportunity to develop leadership skills, organize school events, and represent your peers. Join us in creating a positive impact on our school community while working on projects that promote school spirit, charity, and collaboration.

Academic Bowl

Put your knowledge to the test with the Academic Bowl! Open to grades 6-8, this competition challenges students in subjects like math, science, history, and language arts. It’s a fun and engaging way to showcase your academic skills, work as a team, and compete against other schools in the Diocese in the Spring. Ready to rise to the challenge? 

Builders Club

Make a difference in your community with Builders Club! Open to students in grades 5-8, this service-oriented club is sponsored by Kiwanis and focuses on community service, leadership, and helping others. Members participate in projects that benefit local organizations and those in need. Join us to develop leadership skills while giving back to your community!

Pottery Club

Pottery offers a unique outlet for young artists to sculpt their ideas into one-of-a-kind creations, fostering self-expression and building confidence. Students learn to use their hands and sculpting tools to create pottery staples and imaginative projects like pinch pot monsters, pottery pets, and their favorite characters. 

Fashion Club

Aspiring fashion designers plan, sketch, and create their own miniature outfits and looks to learn the fundamentals of this art. Whether they’re constructing a fashion journal, a fantasy costume, or a new sports uniform, students engage with different materials and learn important design concepts like composition and color combination.

Video Production Club

LIGHTS, CAMERA, ACTION! Video Production introduces students to technical skills like filming and editing while exploring the historical significance of film and the elements of storytelling. From storyboarding and the rule of thirds to lighting and audio, each activity builds upon the previous one, culminating in a final film project that movie-makers proudly share. These students then use their skills to create “This Week at St. Mike’s” News Channel.

Garden Club (ES)

Gardening Club combines soil science and urban farming to cultivate a love of gardening and nature. Students get their hands dirty exploring aspects of gardening, parts of plants, soil, water, and more! Each meticulously designed lesson allocates time for introducing new topics, conducting experiments, giving demonstrations, and implementing ideas with educational games. Through these interactive, hands-on lessons, students experiment, explore, and establish their own organic garden.

Declamation

Showcase your speaking skills with Declamation! Open to grades 7-8, this program allows students to practice and perform selected speeches, poems, or monologues. It’s a great opportunity to build confidence, enhance public speaking abilities, and compete in local events. Ready to make your voice heard?

Yearbook Club

Help capture the memories of the school year with the Yearbook Club! Open to grades 5-8, this club gives students the chance to design, write, and contribute to the creation of the school yearbook. Be part of a creative team, document special events, and leave a lasting memory for everyone. Join us and make this year’s yearbook one to remember!

PA JUNIOR ACADEMY OF SCIENCE (PJAS) Competition

Challenge yourself in the PJAS (Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science) competition! In 7th grade, PJAS allows students to showcase their science projects and research in a regional competition. It’s a great opportunity to explore scientific concepts, develop critical thinking skills, and present your work to a panel of judges at Penn State.

National History Day Competition

Explore history in a whole new way with National History Day! 8th graders participate in this competition that challenges students to research and present historical topics through projects, exhibits, documentaries, or papers. It’s a chance to dive deep into history, sharpen research skills, and compete at the local, state, and national levels. Student participate in the school competition in January then the Diocesan competition in March.

PA MATH LEAGUE COMPETITION

Put your math skills to the test with PA Math League! Open to grades 7-8, this competition challenges students with a series of timed math problems. It’s a great way to sharpen problem-solving abilities, compete with peers, and gain recognition for your mathematical talent. In 2024, one of our 8th graders finished 40th in the State!
